Theresa Grevell

Windows Group Manage, Information Technology Solutions, Xerox Innovation Group

Theresa GrevellWhat may be most impressive about Theresa Grevell is that she is self-taught in most areas, having only a high school degree, yet has the highest esteem of the most educated scientists, engineers, and managers at Xerox. When her nominators asked her peers, managers, and customers for comments in support of her nomination, they were inundated with more than 50 letters in praise of her work.

Starting as a high school co-op from Webster H.S. in 1979, Theresa has excelled at a long list of increasingly technical assignments at Xerox. She has worked as secretary for one of the research labs, email account registrar for the Xerox Grapevine Distributive mail system (one of the first distributed email systems in the world), system admin for Xerox Network Services (XNS), self-taught UNIX analyst, project lead for remote site support in Tarrytown and Stamford, and as a technical support lead for Sun servers and workstations. She provided customized IT support for research and technology initiatives like prototype scanners and printers, and became the go-to Windows 95 expert and then the Windows NT expert in the research community.

In 2002 she was promoted to Manager of the Windows Group, leading a staff of six that supports over 1000 PCs and 500 employees. Her team’s anti-virus and patch management initiatives became role models for the entire corporation. This team recently evaluated and deployed a Windows Mobile 5 solution to provide a cheaper and more powerful alternative to Blackberry. She was a key member of the team that deployed Network in a Box: innovative wireless technology from PARC.

Theresa has raised two boys, both now in college, enjoys cooking and camping, and gives actively to the community. She coordinated a benefit dinner sponsored by the Lions Club and the Walworth Fire Department; served as secretary of Wayne Wings Soccer Club for several years; volunteer at the National Railway Historical Society; led a walking initiative for the Xerox Health and Fitness Club for many years; and has regularly participated in the United Way Day of Caring.
