The Emergence of IT as a Strategic and Valued Business Partner

How can organizations transform IT from being a cost center to becoming a valued business partner aligned with business strategies? Has the label been shed that IT is no longer strictly a cost of doing business?  Is IT emerging as a true value to the organization? 

Join us as leaders in IT share their views of how they moved IT to a seat at the leadership table.

 2007 Roundtable Panelists are:

  • Amy Carey, Web Infrastructure Manager, Element K for ElementK, a global learning services provider headquartered in Rochester, NY. She is responsible for all administrative and technical aspects of a 24x7x365 day customer-facing data center support organization. Amy’s 20 year experience in the IT field offers perspectives as both a cost center and a profit center, with the responsibility of managing annual expense and capital budgets in excess of $2 million. Her current role offers the challenge of controlling the costs for the delivery of a revenue-generating product that meets or exceeds aggressive customer SLA’s, while still generating profits for ElementK’s E-business offerings.
  • Laura Chan  
    Laura M. Chan is Senior Engineering Manager at Harris Corporation's RF Communications Division in Rochester, N.Y. Harris Corporation is an international communications equipment and systems company focused on providing assured communications(tm) solutions for government and commercial customers in more than 150 countries. Laura Chan is responsible for on-going product and program development efforts for all Department of Defense Falcon II radios as well as all HF radios and accessories world wide. She graduated from Carroll College in Wisconsin in 1985 with a bachelor of science degree in Computer Science and a bachelor of arts in Spanish.
  • Dawn Kolb, Vice President of System Operations, Global Crossing
    Dawn Kolb joined the company in 1982 as an Operator and worked through the ranks to her current position
    Global Responsibilities include:  systems support (mainframe, As400, UNIX, Intel), Help desk, Desktop, network, Telecom, Disaster Recovery

  • Ann Marie Lehner
    Ann Marie Lehner is a  Supervisor of Technology Services for the Rochester City School District.
    She has worked in the IT industry for 22 years.  After college, her first position was at ACC Long Distance Corp. where she worked as a computer operator, then a programmer/analyst.  She accepted a position at the Rochester City School District in 1987, where she worked as a technical developer supporting the business departments of the school district.  For the past two years, she has led the IT Business Applications Department, under the Division of Operations at RCSD.  Her department is responsible for all business systems, primarily PeopleSoft, and supports the Accounting, Budget, Purchasing, Human Resource and Payroll departments. Education: AAS in Computer Science and a  BS in Organizational Management 
  • Trina Marquez, Associate Vice President for Technology & Campus Operations, Nazereth College
    As Associate Vice President for Technology & Campus Operations, Trina is responsible for leading the overall operational functions of Nazareth College.  She leads a team of 180-employees in the campus divisions of Information Technology, Facilities & Grounds, Dining & Catering Services and the Campus Bookstore. Her divisions have broad responsibilities for providing services to faculty, staff, students and outside clients for all technology and telephone services, maintenance for twenty-three buildings and athletic facilities, manicuring lawns and wooded groves of a 150 acres, serves over 550,000 dining meals and has catering and bookstore sales of $420,000 and $1.6 million, respectively. 
    Trina is also responsible for the development and implementation of strategic, tactical, and operational plans for all of her divisions. Current major initiatives include developing an IT vision and strategic plan, improving campus operational procedures and processes, and overseeing the campus growth in facilities.
    She comes to Nazareth College from the Fairport Central School District, where she served as the Director of Technology Operations.  Her previous experience includes service as the Chief Technology Officer for the Monroe County Office of the Sheriff, and many years with Frontier Communications/Rochester Telephone in a variety of operational and technical roles. Ms. Marquez holds an MS in Business and Organizational Management from Roberts Wesleyan College, and a BS in Management Information Systems from the Rochester Institute of Technology.  She is a past recipient of the Rochester Business Journal 40 Under 40 Award, and has been actively engaged in community service, including terms on the boards of Sojourner House and the Monroe Community College (MCC) Foundation. She and her husband, Keith, reside in Penfield with their two children.
